The statistical analysis of lifetime or survival data has become a topic of considerable interest of statisticians. The field has expanded rapidly in recent years. The emphasis of this study is to perform survival analysis of the lifetime infant mortality data of Bangladesh. It is intended as a reference for individuals interested in the analysis of survival data.
The Kaplan-Meier method as non-parametric, Cox’s proportional hazards model as semi-parametric and accelerated failure time model as parametric method are used in this context. Here it is used to analyze the infant mortality data of Bangladesh Demographic Health Survey (BDHS, 2004) to assess the influence of several factors like sex of child, mother’s age, mother’s education, birth order and type of place of residence.
The aim of this research is to identify the determinants of infant mortality in the context of Bangladesh and analyze with the above methods to have extra knowledge about the survival methods which is one of the most important topics for the statisticians.
The findings of the study may provide useful information for the policy makers in designing and implementing necessary steps to improve survival status of infant mortality in Bangladesh.
