The problem considered is that of estimating the total `weight' of objects using singular and nonsingular spring balance and chemical balance weighing designs, with or without restriction on the number of objects that may be included in any single weighing. The presence and absence of bias in the balance are both considered. The study also covers spring balance designs with 'string property'.
