Interpreting sufficiency using partitions

M. Masoom Ali, D. Limbach, and L.D. Bookmyer (1981). Interpreting sufficiency using partitions . Journal of Statistical Research, Vol. 15, No. 1-2, pp.  ??-??.

Abstract

In this paper we discuss some aspects of the role of partitions in the concept of sufficiency. This approach aids in understanding sufficiency and non-sufficiency of statistics. In order to further appreciate the approach, a number of well known analytic results on sufficiency, minimal sufficiency, and non-sufficiency are examined in light of the partition approach.
