Estimating the Mean with the use of Coefficient of Variation

R.K. Singh and S.M.H. Zaidi (1991). Estimating the Mean with the use of Coefficient of Variation. Journal of Statistical Research, Vol. 25, No. 1-2, pp.  33-44.

Abstract

Two classes of estimators for estimating the mean (\mu) of a population with finite variance \sigma^2 in two different situations (i) \sigma^2 unknown and (ii) \sigma^2 known have been proposed. The general expressions of bias and mean squared error (MSE) of the classes are found. Further, the properties of the two classes are studied and it is shown that all the results of the particular estimators considered by various authors are special cases of the present study.
