Abstract
This article examines the use of the Jackknife method for inference on the parameter where and represent the mean and variance of a normal population, respectively. The exact distribution of the MLE of is approximated using Edgeworth series expansion which is found to be adequate even when the moments are approximate, for sample size larger than 10. The approximation is further illustrated by computing the concentration probablities of the MLE and its Jackknife.
