A Class of Log Type Distributions
M.S. Rahman and S. Nahar (2003). A Class of Log Type Distributions . Journal of Statistical Research, Vol. 37, No. 2, pp. 241-249.
Log type distributions are widely used as income distributions in Economic statistics. At present two income distributions namely the Pareto and the log normal distributions are available. Both the distributions are log type. The Pareto distribution fits well for a country with stable economy and high-income levels. On the other hand the log normal distribution fits well for a country with low income levels. But there are many countries in the world especially the developing countries where none of these two distributions fits well. In this article a class of many log type distributions is defined. It is expected that these distributions will fit well for those countries where the log normal and the Pareto do not give a good fit. General formulae for the determination of characteristic function. Laplace transform and moments of various distributions belonging to this class are derived and applied.
