ISRT NewsMuhammad Shuaib became the new Director of ISRT on January 11, 2012. In a simple ceremony, where all the faculty members of ISRT were present, Prof M. Amir Hossain, the outgoing Director, handed over the directorship to Muhammad Shuaib. We congratulate Muhammad Shuaib as the new director of ISRT and also thank Prof Amir Hossain for successfully completing his tenure.

Dr. M. Asaduzzaman receives OR society awardISRT faculty Dr. M Asaduzzaman has been awarded the prestigious Operation Research (OR) Society PhD prize for his PhD dissertation "Capacity Planning of a Perinatal Network: A Loss Network Framework" under the supervision of Professor Thierry Chaussalet. The prize, for the Most Distinguished Body of Research leading to the Award of a Doctorate in the field of OR, is an annual one, with the award being made at the OR Society’s Annual conference in September 2011. Training Program on 'SPSS and Applied Statistics', 2011ISRT offers training on Applied Statistics and SPSS on a regular basis. The program aims at training the participants basic idea of Statistics at the same time elaborating how to interpret the results obtained from SPSS output. ISRT Lost in the Football FinalISRT lost in the inter-department football final to the Department of Chemistry by 3-0 goals in tie-breaker. The score was goalless at the end of the regular time.

ISRT reached the FinalISRT reached the Final of the inter-department football tournament of the University of Dhaka. In the semifinal, ISRT beat the department of mathematics by 3-2 goals in tie-breaker. Raihan, Janibul, and Zia scored the goals for ISRT. This is the second consecutive year that ISRT reached the final of the tournament. We congratulate all the players and officials of the ISRT football team!!

ISRT beat Department of Soil, Water and Environment in FootballIn the quarter final match of inter-department football tournament, ISRT beat the Department of Soil, Water and Environment today. No side could score a goal during the 40-minute regular time. Then, in the tie-break ISRT won by 3-2 goals. Zanibul Haq, goal-keeper of ISRT team, saved 3 shots through his tremendous continuing efforts. Anis, Zia and Raihan scored the goals for the ISRT. Many congratulations to every member of the ISRT team!

ISRT beat CSE in FootballISRT beat the department of Computer Science and Engineering by 3-0 goals in tiebreaker. Anisur Rahman, Faysal hasan and Tanjir Uddin Chowdhury are scored all important goals for ISRT and ISRT goalkeeper Zanibul Haq saved three shots from CSE players in the tiebreaker.

JSR Special issue on BiostatisticsWe are pleased to announce that Journal of Statistical Research (JSR) is going to publish a special volume in the area of Biostatistics. The December 2012 issue of JSR will be dedicated to this special issue and Dr. Abdus S. Wahed, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA will serve as the guest editor for the issue. Authors are welcome to submit original or review article for publication in this issue. Articles must be received by June 20, 2012 to be considered for publication in this issue.
